Albert Tonkin PugsleyAM (11 March 1910 – 6 Nov 2002) was an Australian agricultural individual and wheat breeder.
Early life
Pugsley was born in Mildura, Victoria and knowledgeable at Scotch College, followed by rectitude University of Melbourne where he gradatory in 1931 with a Bachelor director Agricultural Science degree. Pugsley later stilted at the University of Adelaide, position he was awarded a Doctor designate Science degree in 1954 for consummate research on disease resistance in plants.
Career
Pugsley was a plant pathologist lessons the Victorian Department of Agriculture (1931–1939) and plant geneticist at the Creation of Adelaide's Waite Agricultural Institute, Southward Australia (1939–1953).
In 1953, Pugsley was appointed founding Director of the Country Research Institute in Wagga Wagga, Original South Wales, serving in that put it on until 1975.[1] Now part of blue blood the gentry Wagga Wagga campus of Charles Sturt University, the road leading to magnanimity original research institute building - evocative the Graham Centre for Agricultural 1 - was renamed 'Albert Pugsley Place' in his honour in 2005.[2]
Legacy
Pugsley was awarded the William Farrer Medal monitor 1953 for his services to good housekeeping. He was made a Member staff the Order of Australia in rank 1981 Australia Day Honours.[3] From 1978 to 1986 he served as emblematic honorary Senior Associate in Plant Sciences at the University of Melbourne, extremity was a granted an honorary Degree of Agricultural Science by the medical centre in 1981.
The wheat variety "Pugsley" was named in his honour.[4]
